The Grays Studio Rehearsals and Radio Shows

One of the great things about keeping a blog is that you get help on the things you write about. I've had a couple of posters turn me on to some great music. I had thought that had I all of the Jason Falkner unreleased stuff, but I was wrong. Below is a compilation I put together from a couple of postings of some live studio covers performed by the Grays. I put these together with some acoustic radio show tunes from the same era.

The Grays - Studio Rehearsals and Radio Shows

Together, these complement the only release by the Power Pop supergroup the Grays featuring Jason Falkner, Jon Brion, Buddy Judge and Dan McCarroll.

Don't know that cornerstone album? Get over to the Never Get Out of the Boat blog immediately and check it out. if you like anything on this blog, you'll want to hear this!

Thanks to all for helping me complete my collection....and if I'm missing more stuff, will you let me know?

Awesome post, The Grays are my second fave "post jellyfish offshoot" band after Imperial Drag.

And let's face it, anything with Falkner in it is going to be good.

1. EVERYBODYS WORLD
2. SAME THING
3. SPOOKY
4. OH NEVER MIND
5. BLESSED
6. STRINGS
7. BOTH BELONG
8. I GO ASTRAY
9. ALL YOU WANTED
10. NO ON CAN HURT ME

THE GRAYS DID NOT PLAY MANY CONCERTS IN THEIR SHORT EXISTANCE AND THE FEW LIVE RECORDINGS THAT HAVE EMERGED ARE PRETTY DRAB AUDIENCE RECORDINGS…
THIS ONE IS THE EXCEPTION, EITHER A VERY GOOD AUDIENCE TAPE OR A SOUNDBOARD (YOU JUDGE FOR YOURSELF) I’D GIVE IT A EIGHT OR NINE OUT OF TEN. THE DATE IS UNKNOWN, THE VENUE ALSO BUT THE VERY INTERESTING TRACKLISTING MARKS IT AS PRE RO SHAM BO…MAYBE ONE OF THE SHOWCASE DID A FEW WEEK AFTER THEY GOT TOGETHER

Jay,

Thanks for the live Grays show. I'm listening to it and loving it. The only live show I've heard was almost unlistenable. This is much better!!

Hey all! Thanks so much for all this stuff! I just discovered this blog, and it's pretty much changed my life.
I've been looking for YEARS for some live Grays and Jason Falkner stuff (the Jon Brion stuff, I've found, is pretty available). I can't even get anyone to trade me some Falkner on any forums or anything. So if y'all have any live/rare Falkner, I'd be much obliged.

Jay,

Thanks once more for these. This is great! You'll find that the tunes from the KFOG broadcast were already at the end of the Studio Rehersals and Radio Shows post here. Did the Buddy Judge System ever record anything official? I have "Profiles in Clownhenge" but never heard the Buddy Judge System - until now!

Ghost.frog,

Did you check out the other Jason stuff in this blog?

http://popfair.blogspot.com/2007/10/jason-falkner.html

Make sure to check out the comments in that posting for some additional great Jason rare stuff.

I'll bet there is even more tracks out there though. Anyone have anything else? How about the vinyl b-side from TV Eyes? I have never heard that before?

Good job I checked back to see if anything else had cropped up in the comments here!

Jay. You did it. Between the Softkore demos from King Size Mong's great site and now this, my TV Eyes collection appears to be complete. (course the way this blog is shaping up you never know - and that's great). This is an extract from the TV Eyes web site...

"The debut TV Eyes 12" single has SOLD OUT! The A side of "She's A Study", with the B side being "She Gets Around" was released by Emperor Norton Records. ..."

She Gets Around is available on the Malibu (Manning, Jr.) cd. It is the TV Eyes version. I picked it up on my last trip to Tokyo.

Holy smoley. I stumbled on this site through Willfully Obscure blog, and now there are all these OTHER links to more Grays-related goodies. So much for my free time.

Thanks a ton. See you in a week when I've digested all this!

My sister saw The Grays in Madison and they gave out a free cassette(it's even autographed!) with Wire's "Outdoor Miner" as a bonus track with "Not Long for This World" and "Very Best Years."
Have you heard this?

Thanks as always,
